Privacy Policy
Last updated: 18 October 2026 · Applies to the Emberkin game ("the game").
Who is responsible
The operator of this server. Operator: name, postal address and email to be added here before the game is open to the public.
What we store
- Your Chief name (the username you choose) and tribe name. Other players see them on the leaderboard, the world map, in chat, mail, clans and battle reports.
- Your password and your recovery code, each only as a salted, one-way hash (scrypt). We can never read either of them.
- Your game save: buildings, resources, warriors, heroes, quest progress, battle reports, and when it was last updated. Your village's place on the world map.
- Chat messages you write in world chat or clan chat, with your Chief and tribe name. Everyone in that chat can read them.
- Mail you send and receive in the game.
- Your clan: which clan you are in and your rank. A clan's name, tag and description are visible to all players.
- Chiefs you muted, and if a moderator closes chat for you, until when.
- Chat reports: if you report a message, we keep who reported it, who wrote it and the message text, so a moderator can look at it.
- A session cookie (
ek_session) that keeps you logged in. It is strictly necessary for the game to work, cannot be read by scripts, and is never used for tracking. - Server logs: for each request, the time, the page or action called, the result, and a shortened IP address (the last part is removed, so it does not point to you). No browser details are logged. If the web server runs into a fault while handling a request, its error message can include the full IP address; such messages are rare and sit in the same size-limited log.
- Small preferences in your browser (sound on/off, which story dialogs you have seen). These never leave your device.
What we do not do
- No email address, phone number, real name or payment data is collected.
- No advertising, no third-party trackers, no analytics, no selling or sharing of data.
- The game loads no code, fonts or images from other websites.
Why
We process this data to provide the game you asked for: your account, saving your village, playing with and against other tribes, chat, mail and clans. Legal basis: performance of a contract (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)). Server logs, chat moderation and blocking repeated wrong passwords keep the game safe and fair for everyone. Legal basis: legitimate interest (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). To slow down attacks, your full IP address is held briefly in the server's memory only, never written to disk.
How long
- Your account, save, clan membership and mutes: until you delete your account.
- Chat: the latest 1,000 messages of each chat are kept; older ones are deleted.
- Mail: the latest 200 letters in each mailbox are kept; older ones are deleted.
- Chat reports: 90 days, then deleted.
- Login sessions: 30 days without use.
- Server logs: overwritten once they reach their size limit (about 50 MB).
- Automatic database backups: 14 days, then deleted.
Your rights
You can delete your account at any time in the game: ☰ Menu → Delete account. This permanently removes your account, save, sessions, chat messages, mail, mutes, clan membership and any chat reports by or about you. Letters you sent stay in the other player's mailbox without your name. If you lead a clan, it passes to another member, or closes if you were the last one. Backups roll off within 14 days. You can also change your password there.
You also have the right to access, correct, restrict or object to the use of your data, to get it in a portable form, and to complain to a data protection authority. For these, contact the operator named above.
Children
The game is intended for players aged 13 and over.
